WHO'S IN CONTROL?
by Kathy Pegram
Proverbs 3:5-6, "Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths."
While driving down the road one day I began thinking about how bad some drivers are. You have the speeders, the weavers, and the slow drivers. You have those who run red lights and stop signs without any thought concerning who they may hurt. Then you have those who tailgate, and the constant lane changers, etc. It just goes on and on!
And then I began to think to myself, "You know Kathy, I'm in control of this car." I set the speed, the way I stop, the way I change lanes, etc. But, if I lose control by driving recklessly, or pass out due to a medical reason, that means I've given control over to the car, and it doesn't have the capabilities of knowing when to stop, or change lanes, or slow down. I began to think that this is how it is with serving God. As long as we put Him in control and leave Him in control, everything is going to be all right. It's when we try to take control of the wheel and remove control from His hands that we run into trouble.
Just imagine that you're riding down the highway of life. The road is smooth, the scenery is great, but suddenly God takes you on a detour to show you something or teach you something. Suddenly you don't like the bumpy, ugly, dry areas He's taken you into. So you grab the wheel and try to take over yourself. But, you don't have the capabilities to make the choices in your life that God has. So the next thing you know you are on a more bumpy road, trash is thrown everywhere, weeds are growing out of control. And you think there has to be a way out of this mess. So you keep turning down new roads, trying different ideas, but it seems that no matter what you do you just keep making things worse.
The first thing many of us do is begin to blame God. Have you ever noticed that so many times we blame God or satan, when it's really our own fault. We bring so many things on our own selves, yet rather than admit something is our fault we want to point our finger at someone else and place the blame there. It reminds me a little of Adam in Genesis when he says, "The woman YOU gave me, SHE gave me to eat of the tree, and I did eat." He wouldn't take the blame alone, no way, he had to blame God and Eve. “Eve gave it to me, but you gave me Eve so therefore I have to be the innocent party here.” I somehow don't think Eve was pushing that fruit in his mouth, I believe he ate it willingly. So what happened? It sounds as if Adam and Eve wanted to drive the car themselves for awhile. And look at the detour they not only took themselves on but the rest of humanity also.
Ask yourselves today, "Who is in control?" I know that throughout my life there have been roads so bumpy, I've wanted to take control of the wheel, but then I stop and think, God you've never, ever failed me. You've only ever shown me love and forgiveness. I think I'll just stay in the passenger seat, because I know when you get me to where I'm going it is going to be worth everything.
It's been some ride! Sometimes the view has been great. I've seen God's glory, met some wonder people, and seen some beautiful places. At other times I've felt a little car sick, the view wasn't pretty, the people weren't portraying a Godlike character, and the places were run down. But guess what? God was in control! He has a timetable for my life. As long as I leave Him in control it's going to be all right.
The Will Of God
The will of God will never take you,
Where the grace of God cannot keep you,
Where the arms of God cannot support you,
Where the riches of God cannot supply your needs,
Where the power of God cannot endow you.
The will of God will never take you,
Where the Spirit of God cannot work through you,
Where the wisdom of God cannot teach you,
Where the army of God cannot protect you,
Where the hands of God cannot mold you.
The will of God will never take you,
Where the love of God cannot enfold you,
Where the mercies of God cannot sustain you,
Where the peace of God cannot calm your fears,
Where the authority of God cannot overrule for you.
The will of God will never take you,
Where the comfort of God cannot dry your tears,
Where the Word of God cannot feed you,
Where the miracles of God cannot be done for you,
Where the omnipresence of God cannot find you.
Everything happens for a purpose.
We may not see the wisdom of it all now
but trust and believe in the Lord
that everything is for the best. (Author Unknown)
Who's in control of your life? You or God? If it's you I recommend you pull over and turn the wheel back over to Him. He's got a plan and at times you may not like it, but in the end when He gets you to where He wants to take you it will be worth it all.
GOD IS IN CONTROL IN MY LIFE! HOW ABOUT YOURS?
Love & Prayers,
Kathy
