REMEMBER
by Kathy Pegram
Deuteronomy 4: 9, "Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them." (NIV)
When you read this you can't help but think, how could the Israelites forget what God had done for them? The miracle upon miracle that he had performed for them. But, then again, you look back over in Exodus, Chapter 15, and you see that in one chapter they go from praising God for bringing them across the Red Sea, to complaining because they had to go three days without water and when they find it, it's bitter. You would think that after what God had done for them they would have just known to trust God
I found it ironic that they were grumbling about water, the very thing that God held back for them so that they could cross the Red Sea and escape Pharaoh. How many times do we forget the miracles God performs in our lives and concentrate on the problems? We are as guilty as the Israelites at times. It doesn't matter that the waters parted, the clothes never wore out, that manna rained downed from heaven and that God brought them out of Egypt, they always had something to complain about. The waters' bitter, we have no meat, we have no water, it was always something.
What about us today? Are we thankful for God's blessings and His miracles in our lives? Do we testify to His power, His goodness , His mercy? Or do we complain? Do we tell about the miracles we see God perform? Do we pass on to our children the marvelous things that God has done in our lives? Do we tell of prayers that were answered, bodies that were healed ? Do we take time to share with others the mighty moves of God that are going on today, so that we can lift each other up in Christ? We don't need "Chicken Soup For Our Souls", we need the Word of God for our souls. We need to share with each other the mighty moves of God that are in this land today. We need to look back and remember the God we serve today is the same God who parted the Red Sea, who spoke to Moses from a burning bush, who wrote the ten commandments with his finger into stone, who opened blinded eyes, the list goes on and on and on. We say we believe in God but do we realize that he is the same today as he was then?
We read our Bibles, we read books about individuals like Smith Wigglesworth, Aimee Simple McPherson, Kathryn Kuhlman, Jack Coe, etc. Then we say we want to see the power of God move like that, but we want to question every minute detail about it. It amazes me that the people who have been in the church for years are the very ones who act like they are actually afraid of the power of God that is being displayed. But, we are reminded by the Word of God, don't forget the past, remember what your God has done. Pass it on. Then, when God manifests Himself, you won't be afraid. His power is still real today, it was real yesterday and it will still be real tomorrow. It's great news, so don't forget and pass it on.
Love and Prayers,
Kathy
