MY SPACE, YOUR SPACE, GOD'S SPACE
by Kathy Pegram
In the book of Genesis, God created an entire universe. He was creating and designing and getting everything ready long before he introduced people to this universe. Then when God did create humans, he breathed His own life into them and gave them a "space" to dwell.
“And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. Out of the ground the LORD God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” (Genesis 2:8-9, NRSV)
God gave them "space" and in this space they would find God. And they could have a friendship with Him. In this "space" they could talk with God the Creator. They could have a relationship and a friendship with Him. And they could even choose to betray that friendship with God.
God shared His space with us. He didn't have to, He wanted to. Why? Because God is Love! He wanted to dwell with us, He wanted to give us a space where we could share friendship with Him and have a relationship with Him. A space to talk and walk with Him.
So why were we given a place to dwell here on earth? What is our purpose? According to Jesus, the most important commandment given by God is: “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” (Deuteronomy 6:5)
God wants us to love Him. He has given us a free will so that we can love. Love is a choice that we make. If we had been made robots, we could do all the work God required. But, we could never love Him. I can work on this computer and it will do what I tell it to do, ( most of the time), but it doesn't love me and it doesn't need my love. So what is our purpose? It is to choose whether or not we wish to love God.
I want "my space" to be filled with God's love and directions. I want to know that He is the center of everything I do. I want to love Him with everything that I am.
What do you use "your space" for? Do you use it to walk and talk with God? Do use it to show your love for Him? Or do you use it to betray the love of God? When you use "your space" for rebellion, slander, gossip, etc. you are betraying a God of love. You may as well be a robot performing tasks, because without love it is impossible to please God.
My prayer is that we realize whether it is "my space," or "your space," it really is all "GOD'S SPACE" and in the end it all come down to Loving Him!
Love & Prayers,
Kathy
