MY SHEPHERD
by Kathy Pegram

The Lord is My shepherd. He takes care of me. Just as sheep are completely dependent on their shepherd for protection and guidance I depend on Him. The New Testament calls Jesus the Chief Shepherd.

Sheep are not frightened of their shepherd, they trust him because they know he will lead them to places of safety. They are obedient and follow him wherever he leads. When we allow God to be our Chief Shepherd we can trust Him to lead us safely to "green pastures" and restore our souls by the "quiet waters." As long as we trust Him we have nothing to fear. Even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death only the Chief Shepherd can walk with us. All the fame or fortune in the world will not overcome death. We can fight against the enemies of pain and disease but death has the final word. And when we pass through the darkness of death the Chief Shepherd will be there to walk us through to the other side.

Our Chief Shepherd has said He will protect us even when our enemies surround us. He is going to anoint us with oil and He promise to protect us through out our life and then to bring us safely into His house to live forever. For many of us this is one of the very first passages from the Bible we learn. But, sometimes I think we learn it with out taking it literally.

As you reread these familiar words I hope that you will let them sink into your heart and into your spirit. I hope you will feel the peace and comfort of knowing that no matter what you are going through the Chief Shepherd is right there with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. You may be surrounded by enemies, but He will seat you at the best table right in front of them. They be ridiculing you but He will keep your glass filled and anoint you with fragrant oil.

Trust your Shepherd He will lead you, provide for you and comfort you. He is there you are not alone. Just as sheep trust their shepherd, trust your great shepherd. He loves you and he wants to comfort you. May surely goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life, and may you dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Love and Prayers,
Kathy
