DON'T CRY!
by Kathy Pegram

Two teardrops were floating down the river of life. One asked, "Who are you?" The other replied, "I'm the teardrop from a girl who loved a man and lost him", came the answer. "Who are you?" "I'm the teardrop of the girl who got him!," was the reply.

This is like so many of us. We cry over things that we don't have. But, if you want to know the truth, we would probably cry twice as hard if we had them. A lot of times we pout over so many insignificant things. Paul wasn't like that though. He said, "I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content". Paul knew how to be content whether he had plenty or whether he was in need. He looked at life from God's point of view. Paul did what he was supposed to do, not what he felt like he should do. He was grateful for everything that God had given him. He could eat steak one day, or peanut butter the next and it wouldn't have mattered to him because he was content in his desire to live for God.

Paul was concentrating on things that are eternal. He had his priorities straight. If we spend our lives worrying about material things, we are going to become discontent. We will feel like we never have enough. We will always be striving for bigger and better things. But, if we set our affections on heavenly things, then we will be content in knowing that all we do for God will reap us a great reward. One day we will see Him face to face. It will be worth it all.

You see, our answer to contentment lies in our perspective, our priorities and in the one we serve. Paul could have nothing, or he could have everything. It didn't matter to him, because to him, he had the Lord in every situation and that was always enough!

The person who has the Lord, who walks with Him, and depends completely upon Him, can cope with every situation. Why? Because, if you have God, you have it all.

"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Colossians 3:2

Love,
