CROSSROADS
by Kathy Pegram

Our lives are full of choices, each one leads us down a different path. Each path leads us to a different destination and each destination shapes our lives. We end up asking ourselves: "What if I make the wrong choice?" Does that sound familiar? Robert Frost's poem, "The Road Not Taken," is not new to most of us. I remember having to memorize it while I was in high school. I can no longer recite it from memory. Still the message has stayed with me and it remains one of my favorite poems. I wanted to share it with you at this time as a reminder -- we make choices every minute, from what to eat for breakfast, to where to take vacation, to whether to marry or not. Some choices are small, some are bigger. They all impact our lives to some degree. A lot of our choices are easy, some are very difficult. And even when we choose not to make a choice we are still making a choice - we're just letting somebody else make it for us.

A lot of us are standing at crossroads in our lives. We look at our mistakes, our failures, our joys, our triumphs. And we have come once again to the two roads. Do we choose to go deeper with God and trust Him more that ever. Do we take the road that is not traveled down very often? Or do we choose the paved road the one that is easy to travel? The one that we see so many others on. In the natural realm I know I would rather travel on the interstate than on back country roads. Its more convenient, I get to where I'm going quicker. But, when I do take the back roads I am always amazed at how pretty the scenery is. I love looking at the farmland and the cattle. The trees that haven't been cut to put up subdivisons. It's relaxing and enjoyable. It gives me time to let the stress of a busy world seep away. I think in Christianity today we want the fast track. We don't want to go down the road less traveled. We want God to do everything for us quickly. We want Him To reveal His plans for us now and not make us wait.

But, as we all stand at our crossroads maybe we need to rethink our plans. Maybe just maybe God wants us to take the scenic view in serving Him. The road that allows us to hear His voice, see his glory, feel His presence. Maybe the super highway is not the place for all of us. Maybe it's time to take the road that will draw us closer to the bosom of God.

Every decision we make affects the rest of our lives in ways we may never even realize. Our lives are full of gates and forks in the road. What crossroads are you facing today? Whatever it is may you make the right choice and keep your trust and faith in God. Be blessed and have a wonderful journey.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I...

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.
