WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND?
Philippians 4:8 (ESV) says, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Philippians 4:8 above is crystal clear with its meaning. There is no room for doubt offered here. God's Word says what it means, and it means what it says. We should use our minds, our thoughts patterns, our mental direction towards thinking on only those things that are positive. We are to think about (things that are truthful, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent and worthy of praise), everything else is not worth thinking about and will only cause a detriment to our spiritual health.
Romans 8:6 continues this pattern of teaching us about the importance of what we allow our minds to concentrate on, when it says, "For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."
Not only must we realize the importance of thinking on holy things, we must also understand the urgency spoken to us here in Romans. If we think on carnal things, if we allow our minds to be filled with ungodly things, there is only one future that awaits us – spiritual death!
Thank God, though, we have an answer for how to think right, and that is through the Mind of Christ! I Corinthians 2:16," For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” We HAVE the Mind of Christ! Not, we hope to have it; not that we will get it someday in the way off future; No, we HAVE the Mind of Christ NOW
Philippians 2:5-6 also continues this thought; "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.” And, not only that, we are also instructed in 1 Peter 4:1 this powerful Word: “Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin.”
So, I ask you … What's on your mind? Think carefully, and be truthful, because your answer could very well be the difference between life and death.
